SKYDEX IMBD on Record Breaking Round Britain Scorpion RIB 'Hot Lemon'

Mike Deacon holds the Round Britain Record with his custom Scorpion cabin Rib, Hot Lemon. New shock mitigation features on Hot Lemon for the Round Britain 2008 event, starting from Portsmouth in June, include suspension seats and SKYDEX Impact Mitigating Boat Decking.

Mike, who shares the roles of driver and navigator with his son David, said, ‘We are very pleased to have discussed potential methods of improving the ride with John Haynes of Shock Mitigation. The result is a combination of Ullman seats and SKYDEX IMBD on the deck. We like a high driving position for good forward visibility especially in waves. To achieve this we are incorporating a custom SKYDEX layer system which further reduces forces from the deck.’

This outstanding 10 metre (32 foot) Scorpion is a special build based on a stepped hull design by Lorne Campbell. Hot Lemon has been constructed as light as possible while still maintaining Scorpions renowned sea-keeping and build quality.

The power units comprise 2 x 315hp Yanmar outdrives utilising a pair of specially developed propellers. The ability to maintain a good speed from the start is essential especially with 1760 litres (approx 390 gallons) of fuel weighing in at 1.75 tons. Fuel is stored in three fuel tanks utilising a semi automatic transfer system to maintain boat trim during extended passages.

With an aerodynamic cabin top and low wrap round windscreen, even with radar fitted Hot Lemon will pull over 60 knots and can maintain this speed for extended periods.
