SKYDEX technology
The SKYDEX patented Twin Hemisphere system works by having two opposing hemispheres bearing upon each other to create a spring.
SKYDEX reduces vibration and impact by 'tuning' the type, shape and thickness of material depending on the application.
Impact Mitigating Boat Decking - IMBD
The combined technical knowledge of SKYDEX Technologies USA and the marine expertise of Shock Mitigation UK has transformed boat decking.
The joint product development objective was to develop a range of deck cushioning to reduce impact and vibration on RIBs and high speed craft.
The finished product developed by SKYDEX is a 30mm (1¼") thick material that can be fitted on a new-build or as a retro-fit to reduce vibration for any craft.
Why stand on an aluminium or GRP deck when you could stand on a cushioned deck?
A fast boat in 1 metre (3 foot) seas can measure impacts of up to 10g. RIB and High Speed Craft drivers know that these conditions can be painful and may lead to chronic injuries.
As the seas get bigger experienced boat operators often stand to see oncoming waves then use their legs to balance and absorb the boats movement. Deck cushioning is the logical solution.
How does IMBD boat decking work on the deck of a RHIB or High Speed Craft?
There are approximately 60 SKYDEX hemispheres (urethane springs) under each human foot plus Skydex is very stable so crews are not aware of it at rest or in flat sea conditions.
As the sea state changes the progressive springing is constantly reducing vibration and as the wave height increases IMBD keeps working to reduce the effects of impacts.
IMBD is a combination of two materials - SKYDEX bottom layer with Cross Hatch top
