Foam Collar Craft

In the Shock Mitigation Directory this category is separated into sub-categories based on overall boat length.

Foam Collar Characteristics

A foam collar craft has closed cell foam filled sponsons attached to an alluminium, GRP or FRP hull. This is different to a RIB or RHIB that has air filled sponsons.

There are combination designs that use a mix of air filled and foam filled sections. The main advantage of foam is a tough material that can be cut but will not deflate.

Professional Craft

These craft can be powered by up to 4 gasoline or petrol outboard engines. Single or twin inboard diesel engines can be combined with stern drive propellor or water-jet drive units.

Besides having many roles in the military and commercial sector Foam Collar Craft make excellent personnel and load carriers. Top speeds can exceed 50 knots.

Military & Heavy Duty

The foam filled sponson makes this type of craft extremely versatile by providing high stability and the ability to fender off vessels without the risk of puncture to air filled tubes.

Foam collar craft can be designed with flat 'walk on' sponsons for crew safety and can be fitted with small arms ballistic protection behind or laminated into the collar.
